Thinking / Walter Wintle

Wintle is the perfect example of the ripple effects created through earnest expression. Very little is known about Wintle’s life or the writing of his most famous poem. Yet his spirit has rippled around the world for more than a century because he chose to pen this poem.

Conversely, the Marine Iguana of the Galapagos are world-famous and a tourist must-see when travelling there. Their self-confidence and sense of place is an example to us all.

Thinking by Walter Wintle

If you think you are beaten, you are;
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you'd like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost a cinch that you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost;
For out of the world we find
Success begins with a fellow's will
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you're outclassed, you are;
You've got to think high to rise.
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win the prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man;
But sooner or later the man who wins
Is the one who thinks he can!
