Wintle is the perfect example of the ripple effects created through earnest expression. Very little is known about Wintle’s life or the writing of his most famous poem. Yet his spirit has rippled around the world for more than a century because he chose to pen this poem. Conversely, the Marine Iguana of the Galapagos are world-famous and a tourist must-see when travelling there. Their self-confidence and sense of place is an example to us all.
Almost a century on, Langston is the guiding light we all need today. In the words of Loften Mitchell - “Langston set a tone, a standard of brotherhood and friendship and cooperation, for all of us to follow. You never got from him, 'I am the Negro writer,' but only 'I am a Negro writer.' He never stopped thinking about the rest of us.”
I wonder how Ellen M. H. Gates felt when her hymn “Your Mission” was sung to Abraham Lincoln during a Church Mass at the commencement of the American Civil War? President Lincoln loved it so much, he requested a second rendition.

I wrote this poem after the word 'Geese' appeared as a poetry prompt within the Poe-Art-Tree group. I'd love to pretend I had a high-brow reason for writing this poem, but alas, it was an act of pure fun.
